Star Wars: Jedi Knight – Dark Forces II was one of the first games I ever modded and played online, and it’s a world I’ve wanted to revisit for a long time. I’ve often wondered what a modern remake might feel like if it stayed true to the tone and atmosphere of the original, rather than reinterpreting it too heavily.
This project is a re-imagining of the Nar Shaddaa sequence, focusing on the canteen interior and the city exterior seen in the original FMV. The canteen in particular has always stood out to me as one of the more interesting civilian spaces in Star Wars — full of character and tension — and I felt it could be pushed further than was possible at the time.
The aim here was to modernise the environments while keeping a strong Original Trilogy sensibility: grounded, industrial, and slightly grimy, with an emphasis on lighting, atmosphere, and narrative staging. The work combines 3D worldbuilding with paintover and compositing to push mood and readability, while staying faithful to the original design language.
This was a personal exploration rather than a pitch — a chance to revisit a game and setting that had a big influence on me.
